American Income Life Insurance Company & Labor Unions

A Brief History in the Market

American Income Life has been serving union members for over 50 years. We operate under the spirit of "Be Union, Buy Union." Our staff is covered under a collective bargaining agreement with OPEIU Local 277 in the US and COPE 378 & CEP 247 in Canada. AIL is unique in several ways. Not only are we the only 100% union insurance company in North America, but through our long term relationship and commitment to organized labor, we have been able to develop a Labor Advisory Board, which consists of International Presidents, Vice Presidents, Secretary-Treasurers, and other friends of labor. They provide guidance on how AIL might best serve the interests of their respective members and the labor movement.

Who We Are as a Union Company

American Income Life is a 100 percent union company which operates with an ongoing commitment to integrity, superior capitalization, and the highest levels of service throughout the marketplace. Our commitment to supporting the labor movement and the interests of working families has been recognized by more than 20,000 union locals with over two million policy holders with whom we are privileged to work. AIL, and its New York subsidiary NILICO, have 9.20 million union members covered with our insurance products. We hold $17 billion dollars of coverage on union members under our no-cost benefits and over $32.7 billion dollars of life insurance in force.

Our Commitment to the Mission of Labor

MISSION STATEMENT: To improve the lives of working families—to help bring economic justice to the workplace and social justice to our nation.

American Income Life and National Income Life have a commitment and dedication to helping working families in their times of need. We take pride in rallying to union members' aid by walking picket lines, setting up food banks, and offering other support as needed. Our union members fight locally, state-wide, and nationally for what really matters—good jobs, affordable health care, the right to organize.

Monetary contributions are the pillars which hold up the progressive principals upon which AIL was founded. The Local 277 membership continues to be the largest contributor to the union's political action fund, the J.B. Moss Voice of the Electorate (VOTE) fund. We do our part in electing fair-minded candidates, as well as mobilizing Get Out The Vote activities.

In addition, the company and individual members have made significant donations to various leadership PACs, progressive think tanks, and training seminars for future leaders. AIL is a generous contributor to the National Labor College, ensuring all members have access to educational opportunities.
